"How can our relationships and life experiences be mapped onto a painting?"
In “Mapping the Unknown,” we witness the acclaimed ‘social sculptor’ Rick Lowe reflecting on, and at times wrestling with, the connection between his long-term and committed activism and his new painting practice as he moves into a new phase of his career, creating artworks inspired by his community work. A co-founder of Project Row Houses and a 30-year resident of the Third Ward neighborhood in Houston, Texas, Rick Lowe shows us the ways in which art, activism, and community can inform and elevate each other.
This episode is part of our "West to East" series, which embarks on a cross-country journey to connect communities through art, spotlighting contemporary artists and the connections between their work, their communities, and the places where they work.
