"Daniel Gordon Looks Back" in Bulgaria

Our documentary film "Daniel Gordon Looks Back" has been selected for the Master of Art Film Festival (MoFA) in Sofia, Bulgaria. Held from 20 to 30 April 2017, this will be the second edition of this international film festival on the Balkans for art documentaries, presenting recent documentaries about the fields of music and dance, theatre and cinema, visual arts and photography, architecture and design, and literature. The mission of MofA Film Festival is to provide an alternative that defies pop culture content by presenting documentaries related to the arts to introduce contemporary worldwide trends to Bulgarian audiences and to contribute to mutual dialogue and cooperation.

The screening for "Daniel Gordon Looks Back" will take place on Tuesday 25 April at 4 pm at Lumiere. You can see the full program for MoFA in this link.

This short film is part of our New York Close Up series, produced in partnership with Art21 and devoted to artists in the first decade of their professional career, living and working in New York City. In this documentary we follow Brooklyn-based artist Daniel Gordon as he creates one of his signature “constructed tableau” works—exuberantly colorful still lives meticulously collaged out of discarded pieces of paper, that are in turn photographed. In the process, we capture a rare glimpse into the daily creative practice of the artist, how he relates to his working space and his reflections on how his art has evolved throughout the years.
